School Closure

Schools in Bancroft will remain closed for Wednesday.

The Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board and the Algonquin and District Catholic School Board have agreed to keep the North Hastings High School, the York River Public School and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School closed for another day.

Although the weather has been sunny and warm and the river levels have receded slightly, the Emergency Management team is concerned about the rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday and what that will do to river levels. Parents are reminded that there will be no school buses for those schools. The decision for Thursday will be made on Wednesday afternoon.

The North Hastings Children's Centre will also remain closed on Wednesday.

Media Advisory April 23, 2013 10:00am

The Town of Bancroft, in co-operation with Bancroft OPP, has opened Hastings Street North to vehicle traffic and increased access to more side streets.

Water levels in the York River have stabilized, for the moment, and appear to have dropped somewhat. You are reminded, however, that the water is still high, fast and very cold, so stay away from flooded areas. There are still barricaded and taped off locations in the town and you are expected to stay out of these areas.

The Municipal Control Group continues to monitor the flooding and is contact with weather experts at Environment Canada to follow the long range weather forecasts.

Schools in Bancroft will remain closed for another day. The
Hastings-Prince Edward District School Board and the Algonquin and District
Catholic School Board have agreed to keep the North Hastings High School, the
York River Public School and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School closed on
Tuesday. The Emergency Management team is concerned about student safety and the
school boards are in full agreement. Parents are reminded that there will be no
school busses for those schools and the schools may have locked doors. The
decision for Wednesday will be made on Tuesday afternoon.

 Media Release April 22, 2013

The Town remains in a state of emergency, however, we are open for business.
Last night the MNR removed a log from the high falls dam. There was no significant change to water levels in the York river in Bancroft and Baptiste Lake levels did drop. Another log will be removed some time today and no river level changes are expected as a result. Continued snow melt and possible rainfall could change the situation.

Traffic restrictions continue on Hastings Street but businesses are encouraged to open. Some may chose to close for safety or security reasons. You are advised to all ahead to see if they are open.
There is parking available at the McCaskie's building via Cleak Street. The town is maintaining the sidewalks for the publics use.

The Reception Centre remains open at the arena.

For more information go to the town's website: www.bancroft.ca, call the Town office at 613 332 3331 and listen to the Moose for further updates.
